Halo Infinite's multiplayer has been running for awhile now, but the singleplayer campaign won't switch on until December 8. With the big day now just one week away, 343 Industries has dropped a launch trailer showcasing action from the campaign, and a very large fellow with a very large hammer who isn't too pleased to see the Chief. The Halo Infinite launch trailer is two and a half minutes long, and showcases what the upcoming iteration is all about: mostly blowing stuff up.Okay, there is some story, as evidenced by this clip. We get to see a brief representation of the conflict in Halo Infinite, which comprises roughly the first minute of this trailer. Then Master Chief says a badass line, and blows stuff up for the other half. Set in the ancient ringworld of Zeta Halo, the trailer begins by introducing us to the Master Chief and his new AI companion, The Weapon, as they embark on a mission to find Cortana. The story picks up right after the events of Halo 5, where it was revealed that the Chief’s former AI had survived the explosion at Didact’s ship. This time, we’ll be facing off against “The Banished,” a violent mercenary group led by Escharum, a trash-talking alien brute. “When all hope is lost and humanity’s fate hangs in the balance, the Master Chief is ready to confront the most ruthless foe he’s ever faced,” says the trailer's blurb. “Step inside the armor of humanity’s greatest hero to experience an epic adventure and explore the vast reaches of Zeta Halo, from stunning heights to mysterious depths below the ring. Rescue UNSC marines to gain reinforcements in your fight against a fearsome enemy known as the Banished.” Despite some bumps and dissatisfaction with the battle pass, Halo Infinite's multiplayer component has gone over very well—we declared it "a worthy revival of a multiplayer classic" a week after it went live—and the campaign looks promising too: Wes said in his November preview that "Halo Infinite might just pull off an open world rebirth."
